Happy birthday America!

Making pie crust
Yesterday, we were making pie in the kitchen and Walker turned on some heavy metal. Like he does. I pointed out that we should be listening to something more appropriate to the day, like every song in our collection with the a version of the word "America" in the title.
So we did. Currently the collection on our music server has stuff from Walker's friends (and their spouses) from the get together they recently had, and a bunch of my Dad's collection as well. We can no longer hit "play all" because then you are treated to a mix of trance/club/electronica, heavy metal, and early music. It is interesting. And I want to do it for future holidays. Egg songs for Easter!
But searching for that word worked pretty well. It was not a very patriotic list of songs, but it was fun to listen to, and especially fun to watch the kids dance to the GWAR song. Walker added "USA" songs this morning, and that is a much more patriotic batch of songs, and then 5 versions of surfing USA, so I'm not going to include those.

Our 4th of July mix, with links where possible. We also deleted a song that was 90% swearing.

  1. We clearly need to update the music database. You missed pieces by Uncle Bonsai, Dos Fallopia, Harry Shearer, Stan Freberg, The Manhattan Transfer, and PDQ Bach's "Chorale Prelude on an American Hymn for the Last Sunday Before the Fourth Day of the Seventh Month After New Year's Eve."

  2. Why is God Bless American on the Titanic soundtrack anyway?!

Love this idea of searching for a word. Fun!
