Boring sewing ramble ahead.

I'm very proud of myself, I've managed to finish my oldest project.

This was actually from a project my Grandfather was working on when he died. Grandma offered the canvas to me and I started working on it right away. Needless to say, I haven't been working on it continuously. The poor dear has been on the needle pointing frame for a good 12 years, and now she desperately needs to be blocked. I've never tried to block anything before. I'll have to Google that. I'm sure it involves wood. She isn't quite as crooked as she looks in the picture, but she was dirty, so I washed her, and now she's wrinkly.

I also finished this

Actually, looking at the fabric a bit closer, I think it's all from the early 80's, not the 70's, but what, really is the difference?
I'm not entirely happy with the way the sleeves sit. I might take them out, or just enlarge the armhole. I have plenty of the green fabric left, so I can always cut new sleeves. I'm going to wash it and see how it looks then. The flowered trim sticks up in the back like a tiny jaunty collar, which is an accident, and I'm trying to decide if I like it that way.
Apparently this project is not as done as I thought it was.

I am rather horrified by how correct this is. Stupid colors.

While I'm at this....

This is hysterical to me. It almost makes me want to be mean to my sims.

Alan Alda was on Fresh Air today. I figured you would want to know, if you didn't already.

Dear Avon

I have seen your new commercial 6 times in the last 2 and a half hours and I wish to inform you that there is no such word as "Herbacueticals". Please take note of this for your future commercials.

Thank you very much.

For reasons unknown to me I was in a horrible mood this morning. Okay, maybe I know, and maybe it had something to do with my new favorite sim family crashing every time I tried to play leaving me with two viable options, delete them or reinstall the game.
So I left the house with Stewie to grocery shop and drop off my soon to be overdue library books. While I was out I figured I'd visit all the thrift stores I have found so far and see which one I liked best.
There is a winner. Thrift Center on El Camino Real. There is nothing I love more then an independently run thrift store, something I'd kind of forgotten since the Thriftco in Ballard went out of business.
The best part was that unbeknownst to me, this morning was happy hour so all clothes were 50% off, in addition to the listed discounts on furniture and binned items. So everything I got was half off.
We now have a nice wooden bread box, that I will probably paint, and a copy of Pay Day!
I love Pay Day. When I was quite small and hyperactive, [info]elfflame and I would sit for hours and play Life and Pay Day, in a strange combo game we invented. I have both the old and new versions of Life, and sometimes force people to play them with me to see which one they like best. However, Pay Day had been out of print for years, and we had no idea what happened to our childhood version. While Winning Moves has recently re-released Pay Day, I was worried that the new art style would annoy me. Apparently I don't like change.
But then, it was only 65 cents at the thrift store, and $11.99 on Amazon, so I think I made the right decision.

I knew that cauliflower had heirloom varietals that I have never seen, but I never guessed it would come in Colors!
I now have a purple cauliflower all to myself since neither Walker or Mika is cool enough to want to eat it with me.
You'd think Mika would at least give it a chance since it's purple, but I'm not complaining. I can eat a whole cauliflower in one sitting, no problem.

Early this morning Walker's Grandmother died. She had a heart attack two days ago. There will be no funeral and we are not supposed to go down to Arizona right now.
My Grumpy also insisted on no funeral, and I don't think I approve of that. It leaves all the people who know you but aren't your immediate next of kin with no outlet for their grief. I think there is something therapeutic about missing someone in a group of people who also miss them. I think I will have to plan out a funeral for me so that if I die, no one has to figure where and what food and all that inconvenient stuff, but people can still get together to miss me.

From now on she shall beknown as "Houdini"

Pestilence has gotten out of her cage twice today. She's always the one trying to escape, but this is impressive. At least she hasn't been hiding. In fact, this time she came into the computer room to say hi and frighten Stewie.
None of the other snakes have even tried to move, she's the only one who thinks it's a good day for a walk. I've put my boxes of floss on top of the cage, hopefully that will make it sufficiently hard to lever the lid up.

Cupcake update

So, now that we've actually tried the cupcakes from Cupcake Royale, Mom and I are officially not impressed. The lavender tasted fake, and the lemon, while pleasantly tart, was stale.
Lucky for me, I got the piece with the lemon drop on it, so I could get the taste out of my mouth.

I don't remember where I found this site, but it is bookmarked on the laptop.
The entry from August 15th is particularly hysterical.

For my own edification

I am in town for about a week. Walker is not.
I had originally planned to deal with the caterers while here, but they don't want to deal with me yet. There are a few other wedding things to do, but they won't take up my time.
I was thinking earlier today that I should have dome more advance planning and gotten ahold of friends. But now that I've started making those plans I'm starting to lose track.
Hence, my schedule:
Wednesday: Invitations, comic book shopping
Thursday: Sika
Friday: Lyss
Saturday: Grandma and cake shopping with Mom
Sunday: Mika's birthday party
Monday: Dinner with Todd and Tonya and possibly others
Tuesday: Collect Bea from the airport, lunch with Bea and Pearl
Wednesday: Flowers, fly home.

I suppose I should call Nana tomorrow and figure out when to borrow her car.
